In a day and age where information and content can be distributed so effortlessly, it is no secret that the key to a website’s success is great content. Content that your readers, listeners, or viewers savour and rave over.
The question that stumps most content creators is simply how to go about creating amazing content that their audiences will devour. The desire to create content that readers and listeners will beg to get more of.
While the skill and art of doing so requires great practice, each and every personality that creates content must choose a style one of their own. Most styles are combinations of many other successful styles – thus, I present to you the style in which I often create content.
How to Create Beautiful Content
Location, Location, Setting.
I’m a firm believer in the idea that creating a beautiful and peaceful setting for you to work in results in great accomplishment. When I write content, for example, I am often doing so in the same environment and setting each and every time.
While everybody is different, I often recommend a very quiet room with very little distractions. Close your email, Skype, social media, and anything that isn’t being used to directly write your content.
As I’m writing this content, I have just my WordPress post editor open, and a vinyl record on my record player. Right now, Across the Universe is playing (by The Beatles!). Chose something that lets your ideas flow and bring you to a higher level of creativity.
It’s All About the Idea… and Passion.
After you’re calm and in an environment that promotes higher creativity, you are all set to get going, right? Wrong! Now you need an idea. Not just any idea will do, though – you need a great idea. A great idea that you are passionate about.
If you are creating content for the niche that you’re in, you should already have passion for it. If not, you need to change things up. Thus, creating ideas for some great content shouldn’t be too hard, right? If you are having trouble, here are some fantastic ways to come up with amazing ideas for content.
It is important to keep all of the great ideas you come up with somewhere, too. Forcing yourself to write about things you don’t want to write about will never end well. For this very reason, I always put my ideas into Evernote, and can refer back to the note I keep there when I need ideas.
Know Your Audience
One of my favourite parts of the book, Crush It! , was the idea that Gary constantly brought up – no two websites will yield the same audience, and thus will never have the same strategies for content creation. For some, videos are better than written content, and for others written content beats podcasts and videos – it all depends.
While I am very fond of written content, my audience may not be. After a bit of testing over the last three years, I’ve found that my audiences generally respond best to my written content. Written content of certain varieties – they don’t like repetition, and like articles geared towards how-to styled posts.
Getting to know your audience is a must – you have to connect with them on a level that any old bystander can’t. You have to personally talk to them – that’s the only way to really make an effective use of your content.
Just Practice
Over the last three years, I’ve written well over 300 articles for my niche. If I were to compare my content from the very beginning to the content that I write today, or even the content that I will write two years from now, there are very clear and distinguishable changes.
Very few people keep the same style over a long course of time – your audience will alter the way in which you write, for they are the ones receiving and thus using your content. Listen to them. Go towards what works best. Change your style. Don’t stay the same.
